Austin Pond Society Needs You
A public service announcement. Austin gardeners can help make the 2008 Pond Tour a success.
An announcement to my Austin readers: the Austin Pond Society needs volunteers to help with this year’s pond tour. The tour is July 19th and 20th.
You do not need to be a member of APS to volunteer. As the volunteer contact, Beth Zapata put it, “Volunteer duties are light and mainly involve greeting visitors and marking the visitor tally sheet, checking for wristbands and directing visitors to the pond. Everything you need will be waiting for you when you arrive at your volunteer station. A smile is all we ask you to bring. Volunteer shifts are either 8:30am-1:00pm or 12:30pm-5:00pm and are available for either Saturday, July 19th (our south day) or Sunday, July 20th (north).”
In return for your smile you receive free admission to the rest of the pond tour, a T-shirt, and invitation to the private Splash party on July 13th.
I enjoyed my first pond tour so much last year that I immediately joined the Austin Pond Society and am volunteering to help this year. As of today the APS needs ten more people. If you’re one of them, contact Beth Zapata at bzapata1 at sbcglobal dot net.

Sounds like a lot of fun MSS, I would join in a heartbeat too if I lived in Austin. If everything goes according to plan, there will be a pond in the Bliss garden this year. Something that I’m really looking forward too.
BTW what a pity your camera wasn’t functioning properly last year when you did the pond tour although I must say that the pics you were able to take were great!
I love waterfalls but over here they look silly as I’m living in a country that is mostly flat, very flat.
Have a great weekend!
Annie in Austin has a flat suburban yard but she’s created a wonderful water feature with her disappearing fountain. Maybe you could have something like that. I think with the geometry of your garden, you could have a lovely formal fountain/pool space as well. — mss

I’m so glad to hear you joined the Pond Society. If I lived closer I would join. I have five ponds and just love fiddling around with them. Tomorrow is my wife and my 29th wedding anniversary and we decided to get for us a new type of pond vac. I haven’t been on a pond tour in a few years, but knowing you are at one of them, I might just go.
Happy anniversary! I’m very new to ponds and I have a LOT to learn. The people at the Austin Pond Society are great! I just got my assignment. I’ll be at pond S-4 of the tour (more info about that in an upcoming post) on Saturday afternoon, July 19th–that’s in south Austin.
